Olive oil packaging tends to follow a formula: dark glass, a heritage label and a story printed on the back.
The bottle that A|S Strategy, Branding & Communication designed for Tella Thera moves the story into the object. It is a handcrafted clay vessel whose soft, asymmetrical silhouette is drawn from the shape of an olive. It received a Top Design distinction for oils and spices packaging at the 2026 European Product Design Award.
Irregularity is deliberate. No two hand-formed vessels are quite alike, and the design embraces that. A small indentation in the body marks where a hand has been, a quiet signature of how the bottle was made.
Material and meaning work together. Clay is breathable and protects the oil, and it ties the container back to the land the oil comes from. The matte white finish brings out the texture, and the branding is kept to a minimum.
The bottle is also designed to be kept. Once the oil is finished, the vessel can be reused, which lets the packaging outlive its contents.
Tella Thera’s bottle shows how much a container can say when its form, its material and its making all tell the same story.
