Old lampshades rarely survive a move. They are dated, fragile and hard to match, so they end up in attics and flea markets.

Lampa Volta, by Romanian designer Mihai Popescu, began with more than 300 of them, collected over five years. The lighting collection was a winner in the lighting and acoustics category at the 2026 European Product Design Award.

Recycled elements are combined with new materials: Murano glass, crystal tubes and brass details. Hand-blown glass is made by Romanian artisan Jeni Costachescu.

The collection is designed as a family of lighting objects, available as a wall lamp, a pendant and a chandelier.

Its shapes and colours can be reconfigured endlessly, so each installation can be different and suit both homes and public spaces.

Lampa Volta turns a collector’s patience into a design method, giving forgotten objects a second life with real presence.
