Water is a common starting point for designers and a difficult one to finish. Its qualities are movement and change, while furniture has to stand still.

Ruwa Cast, designed by Luca Erba for the Turkish brand Enne, approaches the problem through composition rather than imitation. Its top is divided into segments around a central circular opening, and the legs fall away from it in forms that suggest downward flow. The table received a Top Design distinction for furniture design at the 2026 European Product Design Award.

The segmented surface gives the piece a sense of rhythm, like ripples around a point. The opening at the centre becomes the still spot that the rest of the form moves around.

Material does the rest. Ruwa is cast in aluminium, finished with a pewter coating and allowed to oxidise naturally. The result is a surface with its own variation, closer to something weathered than something manufactured.

That choice keeps the design from becoming too literal. Rather than polished to look wet, the metal is left with a raw, quiet texture, and the sense of water comes from the shape.

Ruwa Cast holds two opposite ideas, flow and stillness, in a single heavy object, and makes the balance look calm.
