RemigoOne Neo and the art of making machinery approachable

Ajda Bertok and Remigo bring the battery, motor, and controls into a compact electric outboard that reads as a single object.

Machinery can look complicated before anyone attempts to use it. RemigoOne Neo takes a different approach, bringing an electric outboard’s motor and battery together in a narrow aluminium body that recalls the outline of a rudder.

Designed by Ajda Bertok and the Remigo team in Slovenia, Neo received Product Design of the Year at the 2025 European Product Design Award. Its distinctive silhouette gives a technical object an immediately recognisable identity.

The integrated construction brings several activities into the same design problem. The outboard must be mounted, steered, carried, and stored. A coherent body allows those practical considerations to shape the object’s appearance, rather than leaving them as separate accessories and adjustments.

Neo builds on Remigo’s original platform while retaining its compact format. The manufacturer distinguishes a 1,000-watt standard mode from a 1,500-watt boost, adding capability without abandoning the familiar overall shape. The continuity is an important part of the design: an established way of handling the equipment can survive a change in its performance.

There is also a visual restraint to the project. Instead of emphasising every component, the housing gathers the technology into a clear outline. The relationship between the person, the equipment, and the boat becomes easier to consider as a whole.

That makes Neo interesting beyond its electrical specification. Industrial design has a particular opportunity at the point where complex systems meet ordinary gestures. Lifting, attaching, and putting something away are small actions, but they influence how approachable a product feels.

RemigoOne Neo gives those actions a place in its identity. Its form suggests that useful machinery can be designed with the same care for proportion and clarity as the objects we bring into our homes.
