Some of the most useful products are the ones nobody wants to talk about. Continence aids sit firmly in that category, and their design has often reflected it: clinical and awkward.
Luii Go, designed by Tone Product Design for the UK medtech company Luii, takes a more considered approach. It is a pocket-sized handheld urinal that is unisex but designed specifically for women in a seated position. It received a Top Design distinction for design for elders at the 2026 European Product Design Award.
The product has two parts. A flexible frame in TPA is reusable and recyclable. To it attaches a disposable 600 ml bag that contains a sachet of superabsorbent. The frame flexes to suit the user’s anatomy and the flow of fluid.
The practical gain is significant. There is nothing to empty and nothing to wash, and the frame itself stays dry. Discretion is designed into the routine, not just the object.
The intended users are broad: adults living with incontinence, people who are temporarily immobile after surgery, travellers and campers, and field engineers working far from facilities.
That range is the real argument. By treating a sensitive need as an ordinary design problem, Luii Go makes the product easier to carry and easier to accept.
