Travel involves a lot of waiting: at gates, in queues, on station platforms. Seats are rarely where you need them.
The AJI Companion Case, designed by Zhu Hongxia, Qin Baode, Deng Junxiong and Zheng Qingan, carries one with it. The 16-inch cabin-size suitcase received a Top Design distinction in the outdoor category at the 2026 European Product Design Award.
Its key feature is a magnetic, stowable cushion. Deployed, it turns the case into a portable stool for a rest during airport waits, station queues or outdoor stops.
The case is aimed at short city trips and weekends, where a compact bag that does more is especially welcome.
Its usefulness continues after the trip. At home, the case works as a storage stool that fits into a living room instead of being put away.
