Mudras, the hand gestures of yoga, are learned by imitation. Without a teacher present, it is hard to know whether your fingers are actually in the right place.

Mudra Practice, an iPhone app by design engineer Shiveesh Fotedar, brings that feedback to the screen. It was a winner in the interactive interfaces category at the 2026 European Product Design Award.

The phone’s camera tracks 21 points on the user’s hand and draws a colour-coded skeleton over the live image. A ghost template shows the target pose, and the user aligns their hand to match it.

Machine learning confirms when the gesture is correct. An intelligent timer counts only while the correct pose is held, so practice time reflects actual practice.

The app also includes tutorial videos, guided sessions and a coaching feed, building a routine around the core tracking feature.

Fotedar works across product design, software and hardware. Mudra Practice shows that background in an interface that makes complex technology feel simple and calm.
